The Buried Church is a 14th century Church, built in the medieval period, which was buried under the moving sand dunes with a tower as a landmark of its existence. The migrating sands created the unstable areas, covered by dunes and increasing sandstorms, leading to the abandonment of a parish church.
The parishioners were forced, to dig their way with shovels, to reach the church services. Though an abandoned Church, it has become a place of tourist attraction.
There is a souvenir shop
The Buried Church was closed with a Royal Decree, in the late eighteenth century. Thereafter sale was carried on for fittings and the nave. It’s a non functional church, easy to locate and is closer to the parking lot. There is a souvenir shop inside the church, selling postcards/collectables and there is a large store outside, closer to the parking lot.
A small fee is charged to enter the tower while parking the vehicles and tourism outside the church is free to view.
